Michael Hirst – Surveyor and Managing Director
Surveyor and Managing Director Michael has 20 years marine surveying experience and was accredited by SAMS in 1994. Michael has managed the company since 2005 and has a broad experience and perspective on the marine industry in the Caribbean. Michael’s passions encompass most anything to do with boats and the ocean, from yacht restorations, to watersports and a keen racing sailor, Michael’s competitive spirit has also helped him to the podium for numerous regional and international regattas over the years.

- Graduate of Chapman School of Seamanship
- AMS accredited in 1994
Andrew Waters – Staff Surveyor
Having sailed since the age of nine, Andrew has dedicated his life to sailing both professionally and personally. With multiple transatlantic crossings, captaining vessels through the Indian Ocean, the Med and competitively racing in the Caribbean, Andrew has amassed nearly 100,000 offshore nautical miles and qualified as a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor. Prior to joining the company, Andrew spent 10 years as the operations manager at Conch Charters Ltd where he manager a 50 yacht fleet and Catamaran Charters Ltd where he managed a 36 yacht fleet. He has excellent first hand knowledge of charter yacht maintenance and management, including known issues and the various design strengths and weakness across a broad spectrum of charter yachts
Mr. Waters professional credentials include:
- Director of Operations for 50 yacht charter fleet
- Royal Yacht Association Yachtmaster Instructor
- Operations Director for 36 catamaran charter fleet
- Professional Captain
- Project Manager for commissioning of Royal Cape 45 Catamaran
Thomas Merrigan – Staff Surveyor and in House Counsel (Esq., AMS)
As the sole practitioner of Admiralty Law in the BVI and we are pleased to have Tom as our own in house counsel and also as a specialist staff surveyor. Before being called to the Bar in 1998, Tom had a long career in the US Merchant Marine where he obtained his US Coast Guard 500 Ton Master’s License.
Mr. Merrigan’s professional credentials include:
- Barrister – “Called to the Bar” 1998
- US Coast Guard Master of 500 ton utility vessels, Third Officer of any vessel upon oceans
- US Coast Guard Chief Engineer
- Bachelor of Science with Honors – Marine Engineering and Nautical Sciences
- US Navy Reserve – Lieutenant Commander
Bill Hirst – Senior Marine Surveyor (SAMS Charter Member)
We are fortunate to have access to Bill’s long experience with the marine industry and as a marine surveyor. Bill continues to act as a consultant for the company and his advice especially in the area of complex insurance loss claims is extremely valuable.
